Shavonna Lucas, 10, daughter of Stacey Lucas of Wetumpka, was chosen as a finalist in the National American Miss Alabama Pageant. The pageant will be held June 6-8 at the Renaissance Hotel in Montgomery.
National American Miss pageants are for girls ages 4-18 and have five different age divisions. Jones will participate in the 10-12 age division, along with other young ladies from across Alabama.
The winner of the pageant will receive a $1,000 cash prize, the official crown and banner, a bouquet of roses and air transportation to compete in the national pageant in California where she will receive a complimentary tour of Hollywood and two VIP tickets to Disneyland.
All activities and competitions in National American Miss pageants are age-appropriate. Girls younger than 12 may not wear makeup and there is no swimsuit competition. The program is based on poise, presentation and a spirit of fun for family and friends. Emphasis is put on the importance of developing self-confidence, learning good sportsmanship and setting and achieving personal goals.
Lucas’ activities include modeling and acting. She also enjoys cheerleading, softball, singing, reading, basketball, bike riding dancing, skating and spending time with her family and friends, especially at church.
Sponsorship opportunities are available to help Jones participate in the competition. Information about National American Miss can be found at www.namiss.com.
