Rebuilt Wetumpka eatery to open soonPublished 9:23am Wednesday, April 10, 2013
Rainy gray skies slightly delayed the reopening of Wetumpka’s brand new McDonald’s location on Charles Street facing U.S. Highway 231.
But with sunny skies so far this week, work has resumed on the parking lot, which is all owner Buddy Rogers said was left before they can get back to the business of Big Macs.
Rogers said he hopes to reopen the restaurant early next week. That will be Wetumpka’s first glimpse at the completely new restaurant, which features a more spacious dining area, multiple flatscreen televisions and a variety of artwork to reflect its home in Elmore County.
The new tech-friendly building will also feature state-of-the-art electronic menus.
“I wanted it to give a sense of where you were besides just any other McDonald’s,” Rogers said, pointing out the painting of the city’s trademark Bibb Graves Bridge that dominates the wall over one booth.
Last week, workers put up a shiny new “golden arches” sign.
Though the corner lot didn’t provide room for a playground in the new store, Rogers pointed out a TV nook designed just for the kids, which features games and toys.
Rogers said he had hoped to be open last week. It was only the rainy spring weather that delayed it.
Weather willing, he said, the golden arches will be open for business next week.
