U.S. Justice Department sends attorneys to TutwilerPublished 5:12pm Wednesday, April 17, 2013
A U.S. Department of Justice spokesperson confirmed that members of the staff of the Civil Rights Division of DOJ were at Tutwiler Prison for Women last week to further investigate allegations of sexual misconduct by corrections officers with the inmates.
In a request by The Herald for comment from Alabama Department of Corrections Commissioner Kim Thomas, he said “The Department is cooperating fully with the Department of Justice and the honorable George L. Beck Jr., United States Attorney for the Middle District of Alabama. It is the department’s sincere desire to resolve this matter.”
