Williams OL MVP at Nike CampPublished 10:36am Friday, April 19, 2013
Christian Williams just wanted to get better. His expectations were just that going into Saturday’s Atlanta Nike Camp.
After a hard day’s work, the 6-1, 315-pound junior’s star shown just a little better as he was named the Offensive Line MVP.
“I went from a two-star to a three-and-a-half star in less than two and a half hours,” said Williams, Tuesday afternoon. “I went in just wanting to be able to hold my own, compete and get better.”
He got better. He got a clip aired on ESPN and the chance to meet Trent Dilfer.
“He told he wanted to see me go up against the best,” said Williams.
“So I went against this 360-pound guy named Chris Gamble and I pancaked him twice.”
He also banged heads with a pair of five-stars out of Georgia, shining against them.
As a result, Williams has garnered interest from several schools. He took an unofficial visit to Alabama during the Iron Bowl. He also has stops planned at Auburn and Vanderbilt.
This summer, he’ll visit Furman, Mississippi State, Georgia Southern and South Alabama.
“I learned a lot at this camp, mainly how to use angles when I’m blocking,” said Williams, who is currently ranked the No. 11 center in the country and the No. 3 offensive lineman in the state. “That helped me pancake a couple of those guys.”
