Earl Philip “Flip” Weldon of Wetumpka and previously of Birmingham, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2013.
His is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Juanita Brittain Weldon, his brother Henry Howard Weldon Jr., his parents Vera Kennedy and Henry Howard Weldon Sr., and his step-mother Elizabeth Wilkerson Weldon.
He is survived by his daughter Dee Anne Poehler (Scott), son Lee Stuart Weldon, nephew Henry Howard Weldon III (Mary), step-brother Michael V. Wilkerson (Peggy), four grandchildren and several great nieces and nephews.
After graduating from Wetumpka High School, Flip enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served for three years during the Korean Conflict.
He received his degree in mechanical engineering from Auburn University in 1957 and began his career in the space industry, working in both Huntsville and Cape Canaveral, Fla.
He retired in Birmingham from Southern Company Services in 1987.
Flip had a great love for Christ, his family, his many friends and Auburn football. We will all miss him greatly, but take comfort in the knowledge that we will see him again.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. April 27 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Wetumpka.
