Wetumpka Relay for Life scheduled for SaturdayPublished 9:05am Thursday, April 25, 2013
Wetumpka’s 19th annual Relay for Life will kick off at noon Saturday at Hohenberg Field. Tents and pop-up canopies will line the perimeter of the field where members of various teams set up camp for the event.
The sites will serve as home bases for Relay participants as they take turns walking a luminary-lined oval, playing games and participating in contests. The event will mark the culmination of this year’s campaign to raise funds for the American Cancer Society. Activities, which will continue until midnight will also include honoring cancer survivors and remembering those who didn’t survive the disease.
“This year our goal is $100,000,” said Angie Carter, local Relay for Life chairman.
All proceeds from Relay for Life benefit the American Cancer Society and aid in its battle against cancer.
Carter said the event will also feature entertainment, children’s activities, concessions and fundraisers for the Relay cause.
“Everybody works hard to make this a success and raise as much money as possible,” she said.
