Elmore County Living tops in APA contest

Elmore County Living magazine, produced quarterly by the staff of The Wetumpka Herald, was awarded first place in its division for Best Niche Publication in the 2013 Alabama Press Association Better Newspaper Contest. Winners in about three-fourths of the contest categories were announced earlier this week by Dee Ann Campbell, chairman of the APA Better Newspaper Contest Committee.
David Goodwin received a second place award in the Best Human Interest Column category for “Alabamians resurgent spirit unquestionable” which appeared in The Eclectic Observer.
Kevin Taylor received third place recognition in the Best News Photo category for “Hundreds honor Collar.”
Seventy newspapers submitted 2,668 entries in the annual contest. Already announced awards will be presented June 22 at APA’s summer convention at the Hilton Golf and Beach Resort in Destin, Fla., along with winners in several other categories.­
