Tractor pull set for SaturdayPublished 8:41am Thursday, May 16, 2013
The 12th annual Alabama Tractor Show will be held May 18 at 301 Politic Road in Elmore. Proceeds from the event benefit the Elmore Volunteer Fire Department.
“This is the department’s biggest fundraiser of the year,” said Bart Mercer, a member of the fire department administrative board.
Featured attractions and activities will include tractor pulls, antique tractor displays, children’s pedal tractor race, grist mill, hay baling, antique truck and equipment show, children’s activities, food and merchandise vendors and more. A special feature will be implements used with tractors – mowers, disks, plows, cultivators, etc.
Mercer said thousands of people attend the show and pull each year. He noted that it is a Southern Antique Iron Association event, and participants come from several states.
“Our show has built a reputation with those who are interested in the hobby,” he said.
One of the event’s highlights will be the ninth annual barbecue cookoff. Cookoff categories are chicken, pork spare ribs, beef brisket and Boston butts. There is also a dessert category. The contest is for amateurs and is not a sanctioned event.
Gates will open Saturday at 7 a.m. Events begin at 10 a.m. with the Parade of Power at noon and the tractor pull starting at 1 p.m. Admission is a donation to the fire department.
