Central Road near Eclectic will be closed Wednesday June 12 as Elmore County Highway Department workers replace a culvert to prepare the road for a full resurfacing.

The road was originally scheduled to be closed on Tuesday, but it was announced during an Elmore County Commission meeting the closing had to be rescheduled.

County Engineer Richie Beyer said the closure, affecting a portion “just east of Sunny Lane” on Central Road should only last around a day and a half, at most. The road will be closed around 8 a.m. and reopen around 5 p.m. Signs have been posted around the location, he said, “to give everybody a heads-up to find an alternate route during business hours.”

From the Central community to Eclectic, drivers should probably plan to detour onto Country Road 80, Mt. Hebron Road, then take Union Road back to Cetnral Road. The full resurfacing project, Beyer said, will likely begin in September or October, stretching from Alabama Highway 63 to Highway 9.
