Mr. James Lawrence Farmer, a lifelong resident of the Lightwood Community passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2013, at the age of 77.
He spent 47 years cultivating the earth growing cotton, soybean, and wheat on his native land.
The family will receive friends 1-3 p.m. June 23 at Union Congregational Christian Church where Mr. Farmer was a lifelong member and Deacon.
Funeral services are at 3 p.m. June 23 at Union Congregational Christian Church with the Rev. Neal Hodo officiating. Interment will follow at Union Congregational Christian Church Cemetery with Gassett Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Farmer was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Johnson Farmer, on Feb. 26, 2009; parents, Steadman and Lilla Farmer; brothers, Houston Farmer and Edgar Farmer.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Chuck Billings; grandsons, Braxton Billings and Braden Billings; and sisters-in-law, Hazel Farmer and Betsy Dick.
Pallbearers will be Donnie Farmer, Gary Farmer, Gary Farmer Jr., Claxton Gray, David Moncrief, and Jimmy Smith.
Honorary pallbearers are Bo Adair, Glenn Bails, Kerwin Carson, Ladon Farmer, Gary Johnson and Dan Weaver.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions are requested to Union Congregational Christian Church, 8188 Lightwood Road, Marbury, AL 36501.
The family expresses thanks to Dr. Spencer Coleman and staff, Dr. Keith Thompson and staff of the Montgomery Cancer Center, caregivers: Diane Baker, Diane Edwards, David Moncrief, and Laura Wyatt for their care and compassion.
