Water Moccasins improve to 2-0

The Wetumpka Water Moccasins swim team improved to 2-0 on the year with a strong showing Friday at Montgomery’s East YMCA.

“It was a team effort,” said Moccasins coach Dan English. “But I can see individual improvement in each of the swimmers.”

With 71 (out of 100) swimmers competing, the Water Moccasins finished first with 3,342 points leaving Bell Road (second with 2,053) and East Y (third with 1,103) in their wake.

Wetumpka will have the chance to shine in front of the home crowd July 11 against Millbrook’s Grandview at the Wetumpka YMCA.

In the individual results from Friday’s meet:

Matthias Spackmon finished first in the 7-8-year-old 25-yard Free and 25-yard Butterfly.

Kylie Cox finished first in the 6U Butterlfy. Connor Bailey won the boys 9-10 year old 25-yard Butterfly and 25-yard Breast. Khloe Harris won the girls 7-8 year-old 50-yard Free. Wilson Johnston won the boys 9-10 year-old 50-yard Free. Ireland Garrett won the girls 13-and-over 100-yard Free. Julia Thomas won the girls 7-8 year-old 25-yard Back and 25-yard Breast.

Tanner Wagoner won  the boys 13-and-over 50-yard Free. Camden Zackery won the girls 11-12 year-old 50-yard Breast. Ashton Ziglar picked up wins the boys 13-and-over 50-yard Breast and the 100-yard Indvidual Medley.

In the Relays, Wetumpka picked up wins in the 6U, 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12 mixed 100-yard relays.

They also medaled in the 6U Mixed, girls 7-8, boys 7-8, girls 9-10 and boys 9-10 100-yard Freestyle Relay and in the girls 11-12 200-yard Freestyle Relay.
