Volunteers needed for haunted housePublished 4:47am Tuesday, July 16, 2013
Every year the lion’s share of the Titus Volunteer Fire Department’s operating budget is raised through one project – the Maze of Terror. The popular Halloween haunted house requires about 50 volunteers each evening of operation for the attraction to be financially successful.
“We need some good, dependable volunteers to help out,” said Bud Ayers, a member of the department. “They should be at least 18.”
Ayers said there is a long list of tasks involved in creating and manning the Maze. Jobs for volunteers include building, acting, cooking, providing security and cleaning up.
This will be the 12th year of operation for the haunted house, which will be open Friday and Saturday nights in October. Set-building will begin in September.
The attraction features nearly a dozen “rooms of terror,” Ayers said – filled with spooky music, horrifying characters and more.
Along with the haunted house, the event offers an enchanted forest, concessions and T-shirts for sale.
An average 2,500-3,000 people attend each night it is open, with groups coming from around the state. Proceeds are used to purchase and maintain firefighting equipment.
The fire department serves approximately 900 homes in the Titus area.
