Mary M. Mershimer

On Aug. 13, 2013, Mary M. Mershimer passed away after a long illness and a broken hip two weeks ago.
She is preceded in death by her husband, I.V. Mershimer in 2005 and by her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Howell and her sisters, Evelyn Grier and Esther Howell, and her brother, Elvin Howell Jr.
Mary is survived by her eldest daughter, Mary Helen (Alton) Hood, and her youngest daughter, Amanda (Steve) Lightfoot, who she had lived with for the last year and a half.
She is also survived by her brother, Dan (Elizabeth) Howell, and her sister Josephine (Bill) Moncrief along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary’s grandchildren are Albert W. Ivey III, (Michael Meeks), Shannon Grier (John Grier) and Chad Hood.
Her great grandchildren are Ally and Carson Hood and Hollie and Dawson Grier. Her step grandchildren are Austin Lightfoot (April) and Lori Lightfoot Abbott.
Her step great grandchildren are Samuel Abbott and Lauren and Ivey Lightfoot.
Mary retired from the First National Bank in Holtville after many years. She was a member of the Lightwood Church of Christ for more than 60 years.
She was loved by many neighbors and members of her church. She never forgot to take food when people were sick.
We want to thank her Hospice Nurse Beth with Southeast Hospice for her kindness during her passing.
We also want to thank Judith Guthrie for her tender loving care for the past 1½ years. Also her home health people from Alacare for four years of wonderful care, especially her nurse Jeff.
Visitation will be from 10-noon Aug. 15 at Lightwood Church of Christ followed by a service at noon. Burial will follow at Lightwood Church of Christ Memorial Gardens with Gassett Funeral Home of Wetumpka directing.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Connell, Michael Meeks, Austin Lightfoot, Mark Mershimer, Keith Giles, and Clarence Woodham. Songs led by Mike Tidwell and service done by her minister Stan Taylor.
She will be sorely missed by many and forgotten by none.
