Mrs. Virginia Mel Gibbons, a resident of Deatsville, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, at the age of 92.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Aug. 20 at Cain’s Chapel United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. Aug. 20 at Cain’s Chapel with the Rev. William S. Gibbons and the Rev. Susan Beeson officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Flat Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Gibbons was preceded in death by her husband in 1999, Ben T. Gibbons Jr.; brothers, Tommy Atkins, Eugene Atkins, and Jimmy Atkins; and sister, Emma Jo Lindsey.
She is survived by two sons, Benjamin (Faye) Gibbons, III and Earl (JoAnn) Gibbons; daughter, Mel Anita (Bill) Reese; seven grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lura Atkins; and nephew, Phillip Lindsey.
Pallbearers will be Ben Gibbons IV, David Gibbons, Will Reese, Jimmy Stoudenmire, Chad Taunton and Ernie Woodfin.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are requested to Cain’s Chapel United Methodist Church Building Fund, 96 Lightwood Road, Deatsville, AL 36022.
