College Day focuses on high school seniors

The Wetumpka Civic Center was a one-stop shop for local high school seniors Tuesday. From morning until early afternoon, students poured into the facility to browse booths manned by college representatives and military recruiters.
Janice Howard, guidance counselor at the Elmore County Technical Center, coordinated the annual event.
The college day first began about 10 years ago when the Alabama College Admissions Association asked each county to have a centralized location where college and armed forces representatives could meet with seniors.
Approximately 40 colleges and all branches of the military were on hand for the event.
“Seniors from every public high school in Elmore County are attending, plus those from two private schools,” said Lindsay Jordan, the county’s career coach. “This gives the students a chance to talk to someone from each school face-to-face and pick up literature about the school as well.”
