Lady Wildcats head coach Alyssa Eason said her team, again, reacted positively to an adverse situation.
“We played a tough team tonight,” Eason said. “But our girls didn’t back down form the challenge. We are looking a lot better on the court together and I’m proud of the girls’ teamwork.”
Edgewood’s victory over Eastwood followed a tournament championship at Morgan Academy two days prior.
With a field containing multiple playoff teams from last season, Eason’s group notched three-straight victories after splitting the first contest with Marengo Academy, 25-23, 23-25.
The Lady ‘Cats kicked started their tourney title run with a win over Clarke Prep, who eliminated the team in the semifinals in 2012, in straight sets 25-17, 25-13.
Next, Edgewood dropped Meadowview in three games, 14-25, 25-13, 16-14.
In the tournament championship game, the Lady Wildcats held on in two sets, eking out the win 25-21, 25-22.
Courson was named MVP and senior Hannahlee Harris was named to the All-Tournament team.
Edgewood travels to East Memorial Christian Academy Thursday.
