The Vault Variety Shop in downtown Wetumpka is holding a “Bling-a-Bra” contest for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Entries will be accepted through Oct. 29.

“We will let our customers and Facebook fans vote for their favorites,” said Sharon Brooks, shop owner. “And, we’ll give away prizes for first, second and third place. Those will be $50, $25 and $15 gift certificates to our shop.”

Karen Franks, Brooks’ sister, who is also involved with the shop, said she created two decorated bras that are already on display in a Vault window.

“The ones Karen made are phenomenal,” said Brooks. “They won’t be part of the contest, but they give people an idea of things they could do.”

“A lot of people have already asked about the ones we have hanging up,” said Franks. “We just want as many people as possible to be more aware of the dangers of breast cancer and to bring their decorated bras in for the contest.”

Brooks said there is no fee to enter the contest. Each submission should include a creative name for the bra and may even include a brief paragraph about why the person is entering.

“When someone drops one by, we will give it a number, photograph it and put it in the window on display,” said Brooks.

Winners will be determined by votes received from customers at the shop and Vault fans on Facebook. Voting will end at noon Oct. 29.

“We are looking for creativity that goes along with a theme,” said Brooks.

The Vault Variety Shop is located at 109 Company St., Suite 120. Store hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and the telephone number is 334-478-3852.
