4 qualify for District 31 Primary ElectionPublished 4:10pm Sunday, October 13, 2013
At the close of qualifying this week, four candidates had officially qualified on the Republican ticket for the vacant District 31 seat in the Alabama House of Representatives. The district encompasses large portions of Elmore and Coosa counties.
Frank Bertarelli, Jimmy Collier and Mike Holmes of Wetumpka, along with Michael Griggs of Tallassee were all confirmed as qualifiers by the Alabama Republican Party. At press time, no candidates had qualified through the state’s Democratic Party.
“Others who might seek to run as independents or minor party candidates – a more difficult route to pursue – will have until Dec. 3 to quality for having their names placed on the ballot,” said Probate Judge John Enslen.
“Based on the number of candidates, there is a high probability that a primary runoff will be necessary,” he said. “If so, that primary runoff election will be held on Jan. 28, 2014.
“Following the primary runoff election, the special general election will be held March 25, 2014. In the unlikely event that no runoff is required, then the general election will be held Jan. 28, 2014.”
