Wetumpka Middle sweeps Eclectic Panthers

The Wetumpka Middle School basketball teams swept the Eclectic Middle School at home Thursday.

In the opening game, the Lady Indians endured a fast start by the Lady Panthers to pull away with the 41-26 victory. Scoring four of her six points in the first quarter, Eclectic guard Madison Traylor led her team to a 9-6 advantage heading into the second period.
Wetumpka point guard R’Zhae Davis scored two quick buckets to give her team a one-point lead. EMS took the lead right back after shots made by Myzaria Ransaw and Sarah Ingram. But Davis fueled a 9-0 run by the WMS to close the half and stretch the game to 19-13.
Eclectic started another half hot with Hannah Gibson and Ingram each sinking three-pointers to close the gap to two points. But the Lady Indians’ Jordan Stewart sparked her team, recording five-straight points as Wetumpka gained control and pulled away for the win.
Davis led all scorers with 13 points. Stewart added 11 and Tyauna Ferguson tallied nine for WMS.
Ingram and Gibson each recorded eight points to pace the Lady Panthers.

In the night’s final game, the Wetumpka boys basketball overpowered Eclectic to a 45-11 victory.
After trading baskets to open the contest, the Indians went on a 12-0 run to close to first quarter. WMS bested themselves in the next period, pumping out a 19-0 run to grab a 33-4 halftime lead.
Wetumpka guard Keedrick Adams led his team in the first half, scoring 17 points.
After being outscored in the first two periods, the Panthers clamped down on defense in the third, and won the quarter 7-2. But that would be all the points EMS would muster, as the Indians pitched a shutout in the last quarter and won the game 45-11.
Adams led all scorers with 19. Indians Nick Turner and Kavosiey Smoke each tallied six for WMS.
Gabe Maynard recorded four points and Terrance Head added three to account for seven of Eclectic’s 11 on the night.
