Malcolm Grady “Pete” Maddox, SFC, U.S. Army, Ret., a resident of Wetumpka, passed away on Nov. 8, 2013 at the age of 70.
The family received friends Nov. 10 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Gassett Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. at Gassett Funeral Home Chapel with his brother, Pastor James A. Maddox officiating. Interment followed at Pine View Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Maddox was preceded in death by his parents, Johnson and Loyd Maddox. He leaves to cherish his memory, his son Sven (Rebecca) Helms, two granddaughters Tiffany and Haley Helms, all of Tallassee, and his daughter, Julie Ann Maddox of Michigan. Also surviving are three brothers, James A. (Brenda) Maddox of Moody, Ala., Lloyd J. (Ann) Maddox of Pace, Fla. and Linton Naylor (Carol) Battle, McCaula, Ala. and sister Lois (Tommy) Siderits of Montevallo, Ala., and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Pallbearers were Linton Battle, Jeff Maddox, Lonny Mosher, Crawford Bryan, Ricky Edwards and James Bruno. Honorary pallbearers were Wayne “Tex” Young and Dr. Bruce L. Kent.
The family wishes to thank Hospice employees, Miriam, Karen and Emma for their excellent care and kindness in the weeks prior to his passing. Words cannot express the family’s thankfulness to Mrs. Ester Stewart, his friend and caregiver for the last two and a half years. She did everything possible to make Pete comfortable, control his pain, surrounded by friends and family. Ester, we love you so much and you will always be part of the family.
