The cold is just too muchPublished 8:53am Wednesday, January 8, 2014
I’m just going to say it, this weather is too much for me. My southern blood doesn’t know how to react to temperatures below 40 degrees. As I type the thermometer is registering an outside temperature of 24 degrees.
I won’t agree to the statement that Southerners are “soft” when it comes to temperature. We endure 100-degree weather with obscene humidity like champs. We just aren’t acclimated to the lower temperatures.
Further, our homes and businesses aren’t built to endure the lower temps. We don’t protect our cars when it comes to sub-freezing weather because we don’t have to. It causes problems when we are suddenly dealing with the lowest temperatures this area has seen in decades.
Right now, the pipes are frozen in our Wetumpka office and the HVAC has stopped working in our Tallassee office. It’s a headache to say the very least. We are chugging along though. The news doesn’t stop just because there’s a threat of ice and cold.
The forecast shows that cold weather will continue for a little while, just not at this magnitude so let’s make the most of it! Bundle up and snuggle up in a warm, fluffy sweater, enjoy some hot chocolate, gather around a fire and make a yummy soup or stew to stay warm.
Meanwhile, I’m dreaming of a white sandy beach around the middle of July and warm humidity.
