Relay kickoff set for Jan. 16Published 9:42am Monday, January 13, 2014
Wetumpka’s 2014 Relay for Life campaign will officially get under way Jan. 16 with a special kickoff program. Anyone interested in participating in Relay is asked to attend the event at First Baptist Church Child Development Center at 5:30 p.m.
Those who are already on a current team, who were part of a past team or who are interested in forming a team are encouraged to attend. Anyone can form a team – businesses, schools, friends, clubs, churches, etc. Survivors and potential sponsors are also welcome to attend.
The kickoff event will offer general information on Relay for Life, as well as allow team captains to pick up information packets.
Wetumpka’s 20th annual Relay for Life will be held April 26 at Hohenberg Field. This year’s local Relay theme will be “Sporting for a Cure.”
The local Relay effort is part of a nationwide campaign held in cooperation with the American Cancer Society and aimed at raising funds to reduce the threat posed by cancer.
Anyone who has questions or who is interested in forming a team may visit www.relayforlife.org/wetumpkal, contact Christ Wren at Christa.Wren@Cancer.org or 334-612-8174 or call Darlene Sanders, local Relay chairman at 334-322-8719.
