Laughter through tears can last a lifetime

Published 10:31am Thursday, January 16, 2014

I have always believed that laughter through tears is the best emotion. To me, it’s living life at it’s absolute fullest within a few short moments. Something about feeling intense sadness and complete joy in the same moment just makes you feel alive and hopeful.

My grandmother passed away last week. She was a lively woman to say the very least and she lived a full life. She worked hard over the years and continued that fight right up until the end.

She died surrounded by her legacy of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. My grandmother was very good at living life to its fullest.

While we all miss her terribly, we’ve been comforted by the stories and memories of the good and fun times we’ve all had over the years. We’ve been comforted by the fond memories of her many, many friends.

I can honestly say that during the last few days there was sufficient laughter through tears to last us all a lifetime. I believe that was her way of reminding us to live life as she would want us to – in its fullest even in her absence.

Thank you, Grandma, for that reminder. Thank you for continuing your strong influence and personality even after your last breath. We all needed it.
