Meuse earns Golden TicketPublished 5:25pm Friday, January 24, 2014
On Friday morning Jess Meuse was flying high above her hometown of Slapout headed to Hollywood.
She was making the trip to continue the next step in the FOX reality show “American Idol.”
The 23-year-old was one of 44 who earned Golden Tickets from the Atlanta audition, which was held in late July last year.
“It was amazing,” Meuse said of the experience. “After years of hard work on my own, just being able to be present at such an opportunity was amazing and overwhelmingly awesome.”
Meuse, who is a self-taught guitarist and violinist, performed her own song “Blue Eyed Lie” for the judges.
After all three judges were amused by the story of Slapout and how it got its name, all three were captured by her voice and performance.
Harry Connick Jr. noted she had a “Stevie Nicks vibe going on” and called her “low-maintenance.”
After receiving her ticket to Hollywood, Meuse stepped out into the hall where her mother and friends were waiting.
The tears of joy began to flow.
Thursday night, Meuse got to see the full version of her taped audition with friends and family around her.
“It was awkward to see myself on TV,” she said. “It’s always weird to see and hear yourself from an outsider’s perspective, but it was cool. We all had fun.”
Meuse hopes that fun continues for many weeks, months and years to come.
