Arson confirmed in Eclectic Floor Covering blazePublished 12:14pm Monday, January 27, 2014
The Alabama State Fire Marshal’s office confirmed Monday that a fire that gutted the Eclectic Floor Covering building on Kowaliga Road was the work of an arsonist.
“After a brief investigation led by the Alabama State Fire Marshal’s Office, this morning’s commercial fire in Eclectic has been determined to have been deliberately set,” State Fire Marshal Edward Paulk said in a statement.
Public information officer Steve Holmes confirmed earlier that representatives of the fire marshal’s office were investigating “the origin and cause of this fire.” The structure is located at 636 Kowaliga Road, across the street from the Eclectic Veterans Memorial.
All leads will be investigated, Holmes said, but at this time no suspects have been identified. No injuries were reported in the fire, which was reported to the Eclectic Fire Department around 6:30 a.m. Most of the damage to the building appeared confined to the building’s interior.
A representative of the fire marshal’s office said Monday there is a high suspicion of arson in the case. The Eclectic Police Department and Elmore County Sheriff’s Office are participating in the probe. Holmes asked that anyone with information about the fire call the Alabama Arson Hotline at 1-800-654-0775or you may report information at www.firemarshal.alabama.gov.
The Eclectic Observer will have further details as they become available.
The Eclectic Fire Department had a busy weekend. Mayor Michael Holton, a former fire chief, said the department responded to three blazes Saturday. Local firefighters assisted the Santuck Fire Department on a structure fire, then fought a chimney fire on Double Bridge Ferry Road in Eclectic, followed by a grass fire on Luke Pascal Road.
