Weather threat postpones election, school

School closings and a postponement of a special election are some of the outcomes from the threat of potential snowfall starting Tuesday afternoon.

The Elmore County School System announced Monday night there will be no classes Tuesday or Wednesday.

The Tallassee School System announced it will not have classes Tuesday and Wednesday, while Edgewood Academy will dismiss at 11:25 a.m. and will be closed all day on Wednesday.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning effective at 10 a.m. Tuesday until 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Elmore County is forecast to receive up to 2 inches in snow with the high Wednesday expected to be just above freezing.

Any scheduled basketball and wrestling matches set for Tuesday are yet to be determined.

Edgewood Academy and Holtville announced its games have been postponed.

As for the House District 31 special runoff election between Jimmy Collier and Mike Holmes, the district will go one more week without representation.

The governor postponed the election, which was scheduled for Tuesday.

The special election will be held Feb. 4 instead.
