Wetumpka City Council members approved the purchase of two separate parcels of land during Monday night’s meeting.

One tract, located near the east end of the Bibb Graves Bridge along the riverwalk, will be acquired for $6,000. The other parcel, adjacent to Fire Station 1, will cost the city $5,000 and will “square off” the department’s property. A 20-foot easement for a water line needed by the department will also be granted by the previous property owner.

In other business, the council:

•Gave permission for the city library to apply for grant funds to replace some work computers.

If received, the grant will require a 25 percent local match which Susan Hayes, library director, said was in the department’s budget.

•Approved the purchase of a compact tractor for the Public Works Department for use in mowing.

The tractor will be bought from the state bid list at a cost not to exceed $32,500.

•Discussed improving the outside lighting at the city shop on Red Eagle Drive for a cost of $108.36 per month.

The council will vote on the new lighting at its March 17 meeting.
