Making life easierPublished 4:36am Wednesday, March 19, 2014
Who doesn’t like a good household tip once in a while? Sometimes I feel like I can use all of the help I can get. I’m always researching for ways to make life a little easier. Here are some of the tips I’ve picked up lately.
•Save painting cleanup time by covering a roller tray with aluminum foil and then just throw it away.
•Use the plastic lid from a coffee can as a paint can cover.
•Keep piano keys looking new by keeping the cover open, ivory becomes discolored if exposed to darkness.
•Remove grease stains from rugs by pouring an ample amount of baking soda on it, brush in, let stand for a day and vacuum.
•Treat insomnia by mixing one Tbsp. powdered milk, 2 Tbsp. honey and 1 Tbsp. brewer’s yeast into cup of warm milk. Take before retiring.
•Keep a burn from blistering by applying ice cubes immediately.
•Use nail polish to identify different keys.
•Wrap pipe cleaners around the shoulders of plastic hangers for no-slip hanging.
•Use toothpaste to clear up hazy headlights.
•Use a dry cotton ball to pick up small pieces of broken glass. The fibers grab the pieces you can’t see.
•When you buy a container of cake frosting, you can expand the frosting by whipping for a few minutes. It will almost double in size.
My favorite tip:
•Place wet newspapers around outdoor plants, overlapping as you go. Cover with mulch and forget about weeds. Weeds can sometimes get through some gardening plastic but they will not get through wet newspapers.
