Wildcats earn sixth straight region title

Edgewood Academy secured its sixth consecutive regular season region title with its 19-7 drubbing of Cornerstone Christian School in Columbiana, Ala.
En route to the second straight Class A, Region 1 title and its 30th victory on the season, the Wildcats hammered out 16 hits from 10 different batters, led by senior shortstop Taylor Hawthorne’s perfect 4-for-4 outing. Leadoff hitter David Caton finished 3-for-4 with a game-opening solo home run and was a double short of a cycle.
Freshman Jackson Tate collected three RBIs on two hits. Hawthorne and Caton garnered three RBIs each as well.
On the mound, freshman Caleb Sullivan improve to 6-0 on the year despite giving up six runs in 2.2 innings work. Sullivan struck out three hitters.
Edgewood returns to the diamond Monday on the road at Tuscaloosa Academy.
