A 21-year-old female pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle while she was walking along Alabama Highway 14 in Coosada early Friday morning.

Elmore County Sheriff Bill Franklin said the driver of the 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe was leaving work when she noticed she had struck something around 3:23 a.m. Friday.

“She was unsure if she hit something or someone,” Franklin said. “She stayed around for a while until authorities got to the scene.”

Authorities later found Mirranda Jean McGlamery of Eclectic off of the roadway near Airport Road in the Coosada community and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation by Alabama State Troopers.

An account — Mirranda Jean McGlamery Memorial Fund — through Wells Fargo has been established to help defer funeral cost.

“All donations will be greatly appreciated as the family is really struggling,” said Erica Roeten, one of McGlamery’s cousins. “She was a loving young girl whose life was taken too soon.”
