New Life softball wins ACEAA state title

The New Life Christian Academy Lady Eagles won the 2014 Alabama Christian Education Athletic Association state softball championship.
New Life completed their 19 game season undefeated after winning the championship game against Victory Baptist (Millbrook) 12-0, becoming the first Lady Eagle team in school history to have an undefeated season and state title in same year.
Senior third baseman Amber Priester, junior shortstop Kelsi Spires, sophomore catcher Julianne Wilkes and freshman pitcher Kallie Nuckols were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Priester went 5-for-10 in the tournament, with five RBIs. Spires, who was leadoff batter, went 4-for-10 and had two RBIs. Wilkes went 4-for-11, with four RBIs. Nuckols went 5-for-11 during the tournament and had six RBIs, including two home runs.
She struck out 12 in 19 innings-pitched, earning the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
New Life head coach Sharon Wilkes was voted ACEAA softball Coach of the Year. This year’s team included: assistant coahc Shelby Figurin, Amber Priester, Kelsi Spires, Gabby Brannon, Julianne Wilkes, Raegan Rainey, Kallie Nuckols, Georgia Bath, Laiken Champion, Jordan Figurin, Caroline Greene, Taylor Holton, Callie McAnnally and Haven Owings, as well as honorary members Madison White and Abigail Chavers.
