Vivian McLain “Snooks” Baker, 89, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2014, at the Missouri Veteran’s Home in Mt. Vernon, Missouri. She was born Oct. 23, 1924, in Tallapoosa County to the late Vivian (Hornsby) and John Hamilton McLain III.
Ms. Baker graduated from high school in Tallapoosa County, served in the United States Army and then returned to Alabama to study architecture at Auburn University.
She became a registered architect and opened her own firm in Joplin, Missouri, where she practiced until she retired in 2005.
She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her son, Jonathan Baker and his wife, Lee; granddaughter, Jordan Lee Baker, all of Huntsville; one brother, Joseph S. McLain and his wife, Deborah; one sister, Victoria McLain, all of Elmore County; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Vivian was preceded in death by her brother, John McLain IV, of Huntsville and two sisters, Gloria “Glo” Fomby and Patricia McLain of Elmore County.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Missouri.

A family celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
