Elmore County Department of Human Resources has announced plans for the construction of a new building.
DHR is currently working with the county commission to get a bond for the building. Bids are planned to go out on July 7. Once the bids are closed and selected, Elmore County DHR tentatively plans to break ground for the new building on Sept. 7.
“We have outgrown the building and we don’t have room for future growth,” said Elmore County DHR Director Michelle Woods. The new building will be 24,700 square feet — 11,000 square feet larger than the current DHR building.
The future DHR building will be located in the Elmore County Judicial Complex, in the large clearing next to the sheriff’s office.
The new building will house all of the former offices.
The current DHR building, constructed in 1984, is located on Tallassee Highway in Wetumpka. It currently houses offices for financial assistance, TANF, JOBS, SNAP and child welfare, which includes child abuse, negligence and protective services.
