The Wetumpka Depot Players will be at their humorous best beginning next week, as the troupe brings the comedy classic “You Can’t Take It with You” to the local stage.
The three-act play by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart recounts the adventures and misadventure of Grandpa Martin Vanderhof’s eccentric, but happy, family n including a zany meeting between the conservative Kirbys and the Vanderhof relatives. The encounter is sparked by a budding romance between Alice Sycamore and Tony Kirby.
“You Can’t Take It with You” is a Putlitzer Prize winning play that opened on Broadway in 1936, and was also the basis for a 1938 Academy Award winning film.
The Depot production is directed by A. John Collier and will debut Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m. Additional performance dates will be Oct. 19-20, 25-27 and Nov. 1-3 at 7:30 p.m. A matinee is scheduled for Oct. 28 at 2 p.m. All performances will be at the Wetumpka Depot Theater on Main Street downtown.
Ticket cost is $8 in advance and $10 at the door. Seating is limited and performances sell out quickly. Reservations may be made by phone at 334-868-1440, or by e-mail at kmeanor@wetumpkadepot.com. Tickets may also be purchased online at http://www.wetumpkadepot.com.
