
Lion's Club All-Star game to be in Clanton
By Griffin Pritchard - Sports Editor/The Wetumpka HeraldThe Lion’s Club East-West All-Star game is scheduled for today at 1 p.m., and will be played at Jack Hayes Field in Clanton. The teams n East and West n are comprised of 22 juniors and seniors from throughout the Central Alabama area. Wetumpka High School senior Brett Roney and junior Nathan Knight have been tabbed to compete on the east squad.
“I was surprised that I got an invitation to this game,” said Knight. “No one explained to me that there was another round of games. I was surprised when I got the call and I’m excited about getting to play.”
In an earlier Lion’s Club game last weekend, that featured Wetumpka High School’s Knight, Roney, Randy Kennessey, Clint Martin, Courtney Lewis and Kendall Lacey n Knight and Roney were the only two players invited back for today’s game.
At Tallassee Knight finished 1-3 with a double.
Sixteen of the 44 players will be chosen to represent Central Alabama in their All-Star match-up against South Alabama May 30 at Samford University.
“You’ve got to hit,” said Knight. “It’s all about hitting when it comes to showcases like this. The scouts want to see how well you hit and how strong your arm is. There is a lot of stuff that you have to do to be seen by the scouts. You have to show them that you are ready to move onto that next level. But you’ve got to be able to hit and make good throws.”
The East squad is comprised of: Brandon Smith (Jr., Smith Station), Anthony Todd (Jr., LAMP), Brett Price (Jr., Prattville), Trey Smith (Jr., Catholic-Montgomery), Kyle Granger (Sr., Stanhope Elmore), Matt Middleton (Jr., Opelika), Chad Oates (Jr., Prattville), Jarrod Young (Sr., LAMP), Adam Pouncy (Jr., Catholic-Montgomery), Nick Abram (Sr., Benjamin Russell), Alvin Brocton (Sr., Sidney Lanier), Cory Potts (Sr., Reeltown), Will Boan (Jr., Central-Phenix City), Corey Little (Sr., Central-Phenix City), Zack Blatt (Sr., Opelika), John Jeanes (Jr., Russell County), Xavier Cunningham (Jr., Jeff Davis), Josh Law (Sr., Holtville), Caleb Cofield (Sr., Beauregard) and Chace Mitchell (Jr., Auburn).
The West squad is comprised of: Eric Argo (Jr., Jemison), Matt Trawick (Jr., Northside), Shelby Speegle (Jr., Demopolis), Mark Mayall (Sr., Holt), Kevin Aaron (Sr., Maplesville), Chip Crane (Sr., Marbury), Black Burns (Sr., Northride-Dothan), Corey Cook (Sr., West Blocton), Nick Andrews (Sr., Maplesville), Sam Green (Sr., Isabella), Kelsey Farris (Sr., Thorsby), Rudy Harrison (Sr., Holy Spirit), Jordan Mims (Sr., Jemison), Scottie Nelson (Sr., Sweetwater), Drew Blackmon (Jr., Dallas County), L.A.
