There has been a change of plans regarding Haley Munroe’s future.

The Wetumpka graduate and member of the 2008 Lady Indians softball team signed Thursday to play collegiate softball for Faulkner University.

“I really didn’t think I was going to get any offers because I’d already signed with CACC,” said Munroe.

“When I found out that Faulkner was interested in me, I was really surprised.”

Munroe will join 2007 Wetumpka graduate Cynthia Batchelor as a member of the Lady Eagles softball team.

Getting the offer, however, was tricky since she had already committed to play in Alexander City this fall.

“(Faulkner) couldn’t directly contact me because I’d already signed, but I heard that they were interested so I contacted them,” said Munroe. “I toured the campus, and I really liked it.

“I went back and talked to (CACC) Coach (Greg) Shivers and he said that if I wanted to pursue it, then he’d release me.”

Munroe officially signed to play softball for Faulkner Thursday after touring the university and its facilities.

“This was something I couldn’t turn down,” said Munroe, who plans to major in elementary education.

“It’s a chance for me to get my degree and never have to transfer.”
