Football players at Auburn University reported to campus last week and practiced over the weekend. A thunderstorm delayed Sunday’s practice start for nearly an hour. Once the weather cleared, the Tigers took the field and spent a majority of the 18-period workout throwing the football.
“I just really want to go in there and show the coaches what I can do,” said former Briarwood Christian quarterback Barrett Trotter. “I am not going to be one to say ‘I want to start, I want this and I want that.’ I just want to go in there and play as good as I can.”
While Trotter will be in the hunt for the quarterback position, the current two front-runners to star offensive coordinator Tony Franklin’s spread offense are Chris Todd and Kodi Burns.
After spending the weekend and Monday in helmets and jerseys, the Tigers put the pads on for the first time Tuesday and will go full gear, full contact today.
“(Tuesday) was the first day of shoulder pads and we had some pretty good contact,” said Tommy Tuberville, coach of the Tigers. “I thought offensive and defensive lines competed really well today. I like the intensity.”
The linemen weren’t the only workers to catch Tuberville’s eye. The veteran SEC coach was also impressed by the work of his wide receivers.
“The receivers did pretty well (Tuesday),” said Tuberville. “They caught the ball better than they have in a long time. They need to keep improving and really develop some consistency.”
