Blue Angels post second in ASA ‘Super Summer Slam’

The Holtville-based Blue Angels 14-and-under travel softball team posted a second place finish in the Bama Babes Super Summer Slam in Millbrook.
The tournament, hosted by Millbrook’s Bama Babes, held Aug. 16, featured traveling softball teams from throughout the area.
The Blue Angels started pool play with a 9-0 loss to the host Bama Babes, but rallied to post a 3-2 victory over the Dirty Dozen from Phenix City.
The victory earned the Angels a berth into the elimination bracket.
The Blue Angels eliminated the Alabama Rattlers of Alexander City 3-1 and advanced to the championship pairing against the Bama Babes.
While the setting of the game was different, the result was the same.
The Bama Babes scored a 4-1 victory over the Blue Angels to secure the Super Summer Slam championship.
The Blue Angels walked away with the second place trophy.
Up next for the Blue Angels is the Southern Dixie Challenge, hosted by Prattville and played at Newton Park, Aug. 30.
Following that tournament, the Blue Angels will compete in the Freedom Fall Fest hosted by Clanton Oct. 6, the Chelsea Fun Fest Oct. 13 and then will return to Millbrook to compete in the Bama Babes Spooktacular Oct. 27.
Tournament dates are also scheduled through the month of November.
The Blue Angels traveling softball team is comprised of 10 girls from Holtville, Marbury and Wetumpka.
