
Wetumpka beats Stanhope in third meeting

MILLBROOK -- Wetumpka’s defense held the Stanhope Elmore Mustangs out of the end zone three times from inside the Indian 15-yard line to preserve a 19-0 shutout victory.
The Indians scored first at the end of a 4-minute drive with quarterback Jamaal Golden going in from the 5-yard line. Casey Walker added the point after touchdown for a 7-0 lead with 1:15 in the first half.
The Indians scored again in the third quarter when Ikeem Means went 9 yards on a designed fake field goal attempt.
Wetumpka capped its scoring in the final period controlling the ball for a 7-minute, 78-yard drive that was highlighted by a 49-yard ramble by Golden.
The final Wetumpka touchdown came on an 8-yard pass from Golden to Means with 3 minutes remaining in the game.
The Indians improved to 2-0 on the season and will travel to Montgomery’s Cramton Bowl Friday night to face Sidney Lanier, who defeated 6A newcomer Benjamin Russell 14-7 earlier in the week.
Stanhope Elmore, which fell to 1-1 on the season will travel to Montgomery Thursday to face Jefferson Davis in the Cramton Bowl.
Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m. kickoffs.
