Elmore County rallies for 28-21 victory over Ashford

ASHFORD -- Elmore County High School overcame its first halftime deficit of the year to win at Ashford, 28-21.
Laron Butler and Adam Davenport scored two touchdowns each to stretch the Panthers’ 4A Region 2 record to 3-0. After trailing at halftime, Elmore County got a Davenport touchdown in the third quarter and a Butler TD in the fourth.
Sophomore Daniel Stockman was perfect on 4 point-after attempts.
Ashford and ECHS were nearly even in total yardage, with the Yellow Jackets taking the edge, 331-329.
Davenport finished the night with 156 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Butler finished with 140 yards rushing and two touchdowns.
Holtville 14,
Alabama Christian 13
MONTGOMERY -- Holtville’s Daniel Arant completed a touchdown pass to Akevious McCall and a 2-point conversion to Blake Calloway to secure a 14-13 victory over Alabama Christian and snap Holtville’s two-game losing skid.
McCall also scored on a 2-yard run to get Holtville on the board.
He finished with 176 yards of total offense and scored on a 93-yard screen-pass from Arant..
Delmond Bledson, finished the night with 59 yards rushing on 12 carries. Senior Michael Mann led the Holtville defense with 13 tackles.
Holtville will play at home Friday against Beauregard High School.
The will be back in regional action Oct. 3 against St. James.
Edgewood 48,
Lakesside 0
EUFAULA -- Edgewood defeated the Lakeside Chiefs 48-0 Friday night. Chris Tice got the scoring started on the first play from scrimmage, when he hit Dillon NesSmith for a 52-yard touchdown reception. The Wildcats never looked back. Cody LEe and Hunter Kilcrease would score rushing TDs, and Matt Moore also caught a touchdown pass.
Flint Hill (Bessemer) 48,
New Life 7
BESSEMER -- New Life fell to Flint Hill 48-7.
In the first quarter, Justin Damron and Max Johnson connected for a touchdown. But Johnson was injured soon thereafter and New Life’s offense never recovered.
Stanhope elmore 24,
Shaw (Ga.) 21
COLUMBUS, Ga. -- It took two overtimes for the Stanhope Elmore Mustangs to extend their winning streak to two games following Friday’s victory at Shaw High School.
Tallassee 34,
Rehobeth 13
REHOBETH -- After last week’s upset of then No. 1 Eufaula the Tallassee Tigers scored another region win over Rehobeth. The Tigers were led offensively with touchdowns from tailbacks Tyler Grant, one passing and one rushing, and Mike Smith, twice.
