Holtville High students are mourning the loss of a classmate this week. Skylar Norton, 13, died Friday, scant hours before she was to march with her fellow “Green Machine” band members at the Holtville vs. St. James football game at Boykin Field.

According to HHS Principal Jimmy Hull and Judy Caton, public information officer for the Elmore County Board of Education, Norton collapsed at school after class hours while waiting for time to arrive to get dressed in her band uniform.

“Two of my teachers gave her CPR until paramedics arrived,” said Hull.

Emergency personnel transported the girl to Elmore Community Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Caton said the BOE has not been informed of the official cause of death, but said she was told it was a “medical condition.”

Graveside services were held Monday at Ebenezer Bible Church Cemetery. She is survived by her parents, Rick and Jamie Norton and her brother, Tyler Houston Norton. She was a member of Cold Springs Church of Christ and an eighth grade student at Holtville Middle School. Norton was also listed on the Presidential Honor Roll for the past three years.
