Alabama saw another 200-plus increase in confirmed cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, according to the Alabama Department of Public Health.

As of noon Saturday, ADPH is reporting 11,742 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in the state which is an increase of 237 cases in the last 24 hours.

ADPH added a new category to its dashboard Friday which includes cases confirmed and test results in the last 14 days. There have been 3,877 cases confirmed in the last 14 days with 88,102 test results given. On Saturday, ADPH was reporting 3,897 confirmed cases in the last 14 days so that number has decreased since then. Tallapoosa Publishers reached out to ADPH for an explanation for this.

ADPH spokesperson Arrol Sheehan provided this answer from ADPH's Dr. Karen Landers:

"(ADPH) dashboard updates on a regular basis. ADPH receives reports from multiple laboratories through multiple methods. As part of transmission of data, updating or reviewing, there will be times that a test report is sent to the department more than once. When this happens, the data has to be corrected. This is an ongoing process to refine data and ensure accuracy. Individual county numbers have been updated and may reflect corrections.  Please note that all data is provisional and subject to change."

In the last 24 hours, Elmore County added six cases to now be at 189 confirmed cases with still six COVID-19 deaths. Tallapoosa County added five confirmed cases of COVID-19, now at 357, with a death count of still 57.

Coosa County's confirmed case count is still at 34 and one death.

Per capita rates have not been updated in the last three days on ADPH's website.

Statewide, there have been 485 COVID-19 deaths — no increase since Saturday's report. ADPH reports only confirmed COVID-19 deaths. The criteria for death counts now include people who died with a positive COVID-19 laboratory test as well as individuals whose death certificates list COVID-19 as the cause of death.

Statewide, the ADPH is reporting 156,350 total tested. ADPH's website states the total tested number for the state also includes test results from persons who were tested in Alabama but do not reside in Alabama.

In Tallapoosa County, there have been 2,162 tests counted by ADPH, 228 in Coosa County and 2,162 in Elmore County.

There have been 1,391 hospitalizations across the state since March 13, according to ADPH.

Since March 13, there have been 503 patients in intensive care units and 296 on a ventilator. In the medical field, 1,637 healthcare workers in hospitals and doctors' offices have tested positive. When it comes to long-term care facilities, 766 employees and 1,182 residents have tested positive for COVID-19.
