An inmate working at a business in Montgomery County escaped from a job site last Thursday and was captured by Elmore County sheriff’s deputies about 14 hours later, according to the Alabama Department of Corrections.

Charles Marlin Harris III, who was sentenced to 10 years in May 2018 for altering the identification of a pistol in Etowah County, was working the third shift when he walked off a job site at approximately 12:50 a.m. Thursday and was recaptured at 2:42 p.m. in Wetumpka by Elmore County authorities, according to ADOC spokesman Bob Horton, who said Harris surrendered without violence.

Harris is an inmate in the Frank Lee community-based facility in Deatsville.
