The body of a 23-year-old man was recovered by members of the Montgomery Fire and Rescue dive team just after 6 p.m. Sunday near a popular spot for swimmers on Lake Jordan.

Fire and rescue from Wetumpka to Montgomery were alerted of a possible drowning near “the Rock” on Lake Jordan around 4:25 p.m.

Members of the Montgomery Fire and Rescue dive team were in the water at 6:11 p.m. and found the man a minute later.

He was recovered by dive personnel in the boat at 6:25 p.m. according to one of the dive team members who was on the scene.

There have been reports that the man as well as others were jumping off “the Rock” as most tend to do, but Elmore County Sheriff Bill Franklin said the man was swimming near some rocks with a church group.

Franklin identified the man as Carlton Wade Corbett of Wetumpka.

“I still don’t know what took him under just yet,” Franklin said.

Members of the Wetumpka Fire Swift Water Rescue team, Elmore County Sheriff’s Department, Montgomery Fire and Rescue as well as the Alabama Marine Police assisted in the recovery of the drowning victim.
