A Montgomery man was arrested Thursday by law enforcement officials in Millbrook on charges of sexual misconduct with a minor and an official said more victims may emerge.
On March 14, investigators with the Millbrook Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit arrested Elisha Burch, 28, on charges of second-degree rape, traveling to meet a child for an unlawful sex act, electronic solicitation of a child and transmitting obscene material to a child.
“This is one of those cases that absolutely sickens you,” Millbrook police chief P.K. Johnson said in a press release. “There are some people that will defend this alleged offender’s acts by saying the minor child, who was under the age of 16 at the time the alleged offenses occurred, was not forcibly compelled to engage in sexual activity with this grown man. In the state of Alabama the law says that a person under that age may not lawfully consent.
“Our detectives have been working closely with Prattville investigators since this case was reported late last month. There is a strong possibility that this individual has been operating in this and surrounding areas for some time. We know that he’s been traveling in and out of the state to Michigan and back. There may be other victims. It is our intent to continue working with the Prattville Police Department and surrounding law enforcement agencies to identify any other existing victims.”
Burch was processed and transported to the Elmore County Jail, where he remains in custody under a total bond of $50,000.
“People that victimize children have no business on our streets,” Johnson said. “We encourage anyone with information on this or other cases involving minor children to contact the Millbrook Police Department at 334-285-6832 or they may contact our Secret Witness Number at 334-285-5603.”
