The movie Son of the South began filming in Montgomery in April but the film extended its location into Wetumpka on Wednesday. From 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. the cast and crew were on site at the Bibb Graves Bridge in downtown to film a series of shots.

Spike Lee is the executive producer of the project while Barry Alexander Brown will take up duties as the director. The two have teamed up several times in the past including for the 2018 Academy Award-nominated film BlacKkKlansman but this will be Brown's directorial debut.

The movie stars Lucas Till, Lucy Hale, Lex Scott Davis, Julia Ormond and Cedric the Entertainer. There is not a release date set for the film yet.

Son of the South is based on the award-winning book The Wrong Side of Murder Creek: A White Southerner in the Freedom Movement by Bob Zellner.

"Now, in his long-awaited memoir, Zellner tells how one white Alabamian joined ranks with the black students who were sitting-in, marching, fighting, and sometimes dying to challenge the Southern “way of life” he had been raised on but rejected." -
