I’m glad to see our member of Congress, Martha Roby, pushing a bill to protect Alabama’s ability to make decisions about education and to prevent the Obama Administration from requiring Common Core in order to get federal grants.
The Department of Education basically just takes our tax money and then offers to give some of it back if we play by its rules. I agree with Roby that local teachers and parents, not people in Washington who have never been to Alabama, should freely make decisions about our schools and how we teach our children.
Roby seems to be fighting for causes important to people in our community, like smaller government and supporting the military. I hope all sides of the education issue can rally around her efforts to keep Washington out of the Common Core debate.
