Entering Friday’s state softball tournament, Holtville had not been on the losing end of a run-rule game since 2017. The Bulldogs also had not lost two consecutive games all season but both of those streaks came to an end at the worst possible time.

Wetumpka students Jay Shipp and LJ Harkless finished in first place at the 2019 Alabama Student Anglers Bass Fishing Association state championship on Lake Jordan earlier this month. The two combined to record the highest weight total of any boat across the two-day event.

For the first time since 2012, the Holtville softball team will be playing in the AHSAA State Tournament. The Bulldogs won three games at the Class 4A East Central Regional including a 6-2 victory over Leeds to clinch a spot in next week’s tournament at Lagoon Park.

After three years at the helm of the Stanhope Elmore baseball program, the Mustangs have decided to part ways with coach Wes Dunsieth. Stanhope compiled an overall record of 39-64 during Dunsieth’s tenure while going 7-5 in area play.

The Stanhope Elmore football team has seen major improvements in each of the first two years under coach Brian Bradford. The Mustangs look to continue that trend this season and it all starts with the team’s performance during spring practice.

Both of Holtville’s soccer teams traveled to Montgomery Academy for the first round of the playoffs Friday night but the challenges proved to be too difficult as both teams finished their seasons with blowout defeats. 

After finishing first in its area, the Edgewood softball team received a bye in the regional tournament and clinched a spot in this week’s state tournament in Montgomery. However, the Wildcats still needed to play two games at the regional tournament to determine seeding.
