Edgewood has promoted from within to fill head coaching slots vacated by the departure of athletic director and all-purpose coach Darryl Free.

Athletic director Chad Michael will head the boys varsity basketball program while Jason Fisher will take over the girls varsity basketball program. Kim Brown will take the helm on the softball diamond.

Michael previously coached basketball at Autauga Academy and Hooper Academy, where he won a region championship, and also serves as Edgewood’s athletic director and head football coach.

Fisher, who teaches middle school science and history, played collegiately at Huntingdon College, was an assistant coach on the boys’ varsity team in his first year at EA, and won a JV state championship as their head coach.

Brown, who teaches accounting, is entering her 11th year at Edgewood and has been an assistant coach for three years, including EA’s back-to-back state championship run in 2018-19.

“We’re extremely blessed to have these two qualified coaches already on staff; once coach Michael got into the office as athletic director, we reviewed the department and determined that it was a natural fit to promote from within,” Head of school Jay Adams said in a press release. “We look forward to seeing all that these coaches accomplish as our athletic department and school continue to build on the momentum we’ve already established.”
