After last week’s series win over No. 8 Elmore County, the Holtville baseball team pushed into the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s top 10 in Class 4A this week. The Bulldogs are 17-7 and just clinched a playoff spot with a win over Handley on Tuesday. They can clinch the area title and a first-round home game with a win on Thursday.

Elmore County dropped out of the rankings for the first time this season but sit just on the outside. The Panthers (16-7) await their playoff fate this week while they battle with BTW.

Wetumpka fell out of the 6A rankings after losing to Pelham and Andalusia over the weekend. The Indians reached the 20-win mark last week with a sweep of Selma and are looking to close out an area title against Stanhope Elmore on Friday.

In softball, Tallassee and Holtville stuck to their previous rankings after last week’s big showdown got rained out. The Tigers are 27-4 now and sit at No. 3 in 5A while the Bulldogs have improved to 28-8 and hold on to the No. 2 spot in 4A.

Edgewood extended its winning streak to six games and is now 35-10 on the season. The Wildcats continue to sit at No. 4 in AISA for the fifth consecutive week.
